Recently discovered in Japan, Russia and the US, (Joint Institute for
Nuclear Research in Dubna, Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee
and Riken institute), these elements of the, now complete, 7th period of
the periodic table of elements with atomic numbers 113, 115, 117 and
118 will get permanent names soon, according to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
These elements are classified as
"superheavy" for they are composed of more than 104 protons, they last
some milliseconds at maximum and they were created using particle
accelerators.
Almost simultaneously, Motorhead frontman Lemmy,
most iconic figure of Heavy rock, the very essence of heavy metal died
on december 28th at his home in Los Angeles, shortly after celebrating
his 70th birthday.
Some Heavy metal fans around the world believe
it is fitting that the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry recommend that Ununoctium 118 (temporary name), the latest, and heaviest of the four newly discovered Heavy
Metals in the Periodic table is named Lemmium. A petition's been set up
by John Wright, a business support manager in this intention, we believe this intention is good and
we encourage any to sign it, simply because "Only way to feel the
noise is when it's good and loud".
